A Learning Management System or LMS can offer key benefits to your organisation's training, both for companies that are based on offering external training and for those with internal training needs.
Using a Learning Management System as part of your overall strategy can create a huge advantage. On an LMS, the learning content is centralised and easily accessible for both you and your users, with tracking features that enable you to see exactly how the training is progressing. This can bring key practical benefits to your organisation. The right Learning Management System will allow you to expand the number of learners at no extra cost, giving your business greater scalability.eLearning through a LMS also gets rid of any geographical constraints. With flexible remote learning and translation features, international customers can learn without the boundaries of time zones and language.
Learning hosted on an LMS is great for users as well as for the training companies offering it. The constant availability of the learning content on the platform means that students can refer back to it whenever they need to, which puts less pressure on their memory and note taking abilities. An LMS has more potential for a tailored learning journey than the one-size-fits-all approach of traditional classroom learning, with features that allow users to specify their learning styles and complete the course at their own pace.A better learning experience for the users means more effective training, which of course improves the performance of the training company who is offering it.
Students have the freedom to choose which learning times are best for them.
The flexibility of an LMS is a key benefit; students have the freedom to choose which learning times are best for them. Different people have radically different schedules; with an LMS, they can fit learning around a 9-5 job for example, or into the unpredictable pauses in the life of a full time parent. Not only does it improve the learning experience of users, an LMS can reach more users who might not be able to access a rigid, classroom-based course. Many interested students who would find a time-specific or face-to-face course inaccessible, such as those living in different time zones or with disabilities, would now be given the opportunity to join your community of learners.Offering low cost training via an LMS to a wider learner base also opens up the potential for increasing your customer base for any other forms of training that your organisation offers.
Wellmother is an established shiatsu and massage training provider. Though their main form of training is face-to-face, Wellmother came to Plume for a new online training solution that could grow along with their company.
To achieve this, Plume built customised features onto a flexible LMS to create courses using text, audio and visual content from Wellmother. Students could communicate remotely on forums with others on the same course, complete tests to receive a course certificate, and set up their own business listings.
A bespoke translation system created by Plume also opened the course up to French, Dutch and Spanish speakers.
A Learning Management System can also radically improve a company's internal training. An organisation may need to train up their employees for different aspects of their job. This could be standard compliance training, like health and safety or customer service, or something more company-specific. For example, a garden centre might need to teach their employees information about their different kinds of plants for in-store plant care and giving advice to customers. The centralised form of learning on an LMS regularises the content that you teach your staff, and the easy tracking features means that you are certain everyone has completed the necessary training to be able to work at their highest capabilites.
Face-to-face or manual company training can be costly and disruptive
Face-to-face or manual company training can be costly and disruptive. Venue hire, instructor travel costs and physical materials need to be budgeted for and can require staff members to take days out of their work timetables. Online training via an LMS can be used to replace much of this training in a way that is low-cost, efficient and user-friendly.
The flexibility of the training available on the Learning Management System means that the training can fit in easily with staff members’ existing workloads with little interruption. As above, users can return to elements of the teaching whenever they need to, effectively removing pressure that can fall on staff to retain all the knowledge they need from one training day.
Though the benefits are huge, implementing a LMS can be a confusing process with significant investment, so it's imperative that your business is matched with a system that can fulfil your training needs.
