LMS for professional associations

Training your members will actually use, and credentials nobody questions

Your CPD, exams, renewals and member-company portals in one system, built around how your association works and owned outright. We host it, run it and keep it current, so your team never has to run the technology.

TEAMS WE BUILD FOR

● A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER

In 12 years building Learning Management Systems, I’ve talked to thousands of learning businesses. Associations have their own version of the same three problems, and I can usually hear which one it is within a few minutes.

Inherited platform

You’re on a platform someone else picked in a hurry, and now you’re the one living with it. I hear this a lot from associations. Tenant separation is patchy, the org-structure admin is manual, and every change waits on a vendor’s roadmap. You can’t build what members keep asking for, and the renewal invoice arrives regardless.

Unhappy members

The line I hear most is ‘our members don’t like it’. Usually the content is fine and the experience around it is the problem: separate systems that don’t talk to each other, each with its own login, admin that’s harder than it needs to be.

No capacity

Most association education teams I meet are four or five people. Nobody has time to run servers, triage plugin updates and things like that, so ownership gets written off as something for bigger organisations, and you stay on a subscription that climbs with every member company you add.

All three come back to the model you’re on. The fix, I think, is owning the platform outright, built around how your association actually works, with us running it so your team doesn’t have to. Book a call and talk it through with me.

HOW IT WORKS

A plan your board can approve, then a platform you own

01

Strategy Blueprint

Before any code, we turn your requirements into a plan your board can read: strategy, design and the technical build, costed and agreed. Yours to keep, whether you build with us or take it elsewhere.

01

02

Designed around your members

Our founder-led design team turns the plan into the member experience itself, as a prototype your members and committee can click through before anything gets built.

02

03

Build in the open

We build on proven components and engineer the rest, in short sprints you can steer, so you see it take shape and nothing gets decided without you.

03

04

Zero-disruption migration

We move members, records and credential history across and check them against the source, so nobody loses a certificate

04

05

Launch at your pace

Full launch or phased by member company, timed around your renewal cycle and exam calendar. Backed by the team behind 200+ launches.

05

06

You own it, we run it

You launch on a platform you own outright. We host it, run the security controls, and keep it current for as long as you want.

Engineered to hold up under scrutiny

Your credentials depend on this platform holding up for years, under load and in front of an auditor. We build for the long run and keep the evidence.

Proven foundations

We build on thousands of components already built and hardened across real platforms: course flows, exams, certificates, dashboards, payments. Your budget goes on what’s specific to your association, and the core is stable from day one.

One connected platform for member training

Associations tell us their systems don’t talk to each other. We build the whole thing as one connected experience.

Membership and training in step: when someone joins, lapses or changes company in your AMS, their training access follows automatically, with no manual re-keying

Members never change systems: one login and one brand from the member portal through courses, exams and certificates, so nobody gets lost between tools

Built around your stack: connects to Salesforce, Fonteva, your finance system and the tools your team already uses; if it needs to plug in, we build it

One record per member: training, exams, sign-offs and credentials in one place, so a renewal or audit question has one answer

Steve, Trustpilot, October 2026

I'd highly recommend Plume to organizations looking for a partner that takes the time to understand the problem before building the solution.

Carly Wallace, Trustpilot, September 2025

The team took the time to truly listen, asking insightful questions that helped us clarify our needs and align our internal team on requirements.

Can a small association education team run a custom LMS without in-house IT or developers?

Yes, because you don’t have to run it. We host the platform, apply updates, monitor it, run the security controls and handle the technical work under a maintenance and hosting retainer sized to what you need. Your team runs the training: content, enrolments, exams and renewals. You hold the source code and the data, and if you ever want to bring it in-house or move it to another supplier, you can. A 30-year aviation trade association running safety training for around 600 member companies and 10,000 users chose this model for that reason: a four-person education team with no capacity to run technology.

Who owns the LMS, and what happens if we stop working with Plume?

You do. The platform is licensed to your organisation for a one-time fee with no expiry, and you hold the source code, the database and every record in it. If you leave, we hand over the code, a full data export in a usable format and the documentation, and we work alongside whoever takes it on, whether that’s your own IT team or another supplier. What ends with us is the operating record: the monitoring, penetration tests and security evidence we keep while we run it. Your attorney can read the licence before you commit, and we’d encourage it.

Will it integrate with our association management system?

Yes. The association management system stays the source of truth for who your members are, and the LMS takes membership, company and role data from it, then sends training and credential status back. We’ve scoped integrations with Salesforce and Fonteva, and we build to whatever your AMS exposes. Single sign-on from your member portal is part of the same work, so a member logs in once. If the integration doesn’t exist yet, we build it as part of the project.

How do you protect the integrity of our certification records and exam results?

Every result, sign-off and admin change goes into an audit trail of who did what and when, which can’t be altered afterwards. Role-based access limits who can issue or amend a credential, and admin accounts need multi-factor authentication. The platform is built and hosted to SOC 2 and ISO 27001 control standards.

How do we move off Moodle without disrupting members?

In stages, with the old platform running until the new one is proven. We map every course, enrolment, completion and credential in your current system, move the data across, then reconcile the two so each member’s record matches their certificates. Members move over in groups, often one member company at a time, with the same login they already use for the association. Renewals due during the switch are handled before the cut-over so nobody lapses. The sequence is planned in the Blueprint, so you know what moves when before anything does.

How much does a custom association LMS cost compared with per-member SaaS pricing?

The Blueprint fixes the number before anyone commits, scoping anything from a single institute’s LMS to a multi-tenant platform with certification management and AMS integration, as a one-time fee with unlimited users. Per-member pricing looks smaller on day one and grows with every company you sign, while a platform you own costs the same at five hundred member companies as at fifty, so compare the two over three to five years at the membership you expect to have. The ongoing cost is hosting and support rather than licensing.

Can member companies run our courses inside their own LMS using SCORM?

Yes. Courses can be packaged as SCORM so a member company that already runs its own LMS can take your training into it, while members without one learn on your platform. Larger member companies ask for this often, and it keeps your content in front of their people wherever they train. If you need completions from members’ systems reported back, we scope that integration in the Blueprint.

How does a custom LMS keep up with new technology like AI?

By being built so parts can be replaced without rebuilding the whole. It’s modular and API-first, so a new capability, AI included, is added as a component against your own data, on your timetable. Where AI earns its place for an association is usually unglamorous: drafting question variants for examiner review, flagging members whose renewals are at risk, answering ‘where is my certificate’ before it becomes a support ticket. We scope those against a real problem in the Blueprint, and you set the roadmap.
